Therapy for Men
You don’t have to figure it all out alone
A lot of men are taught to push through. You handle work, family, and responsibilities, and you keep going. But sometimes the stress doesn’t ease, the anger comes up faster than it used to, you can’t sleep, or something from the past keeps showing up when you least want it to.
If you’re reading this, part of you may already be wondering whether therapy could help. Wondering is a fine place to start. Therapy isn’t about being “broken.” It’s about getting practical tools and a space to work through what’s been weighing on you.
I’m Chad a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Associate in Durham. I work with people of all genders, and I have a particular interest in helping men who’ve never tried counseling or who’ve had a hard time finding a good fit.

What brings men to therapy
-
Stress and burnout from work, finances, or carrying too much for too long
-
Anger or irritability that feels hard to control or is straining your relationships
-
Anxiety or constant tension, including trouble sleeping or turning your mind off
-
Trauma and PTSD, from military service, first responder work, accidents, loss, or experiences in childhood
-
Relationship or family strain, including fatherhood, divorce, or feeling disconnected
-
Life transitions such as a career change, becoming a parent, or losing someone
-
Feeling numb, stuck, or “off” without being sure why
What to expect
Before we start: You can call or send a message, and we’ll set up a brief consultation to see if we’re a good fit. There’s no pressure to commit.
The first session: We’ll talk about what’s going on, what you’d like to change, and your history as much as you’re comfortable sharing. You’ll leave with a clear idea of how we’d work together.
After that: Sessions are typically 50 minutes weekly or every other week, in person in Durham or by secure video across North Carolina.
How I work
My approach is practical and straightforward. I’ll explain what we’re doing and why, and I won’t bury you in jargon.
EMDR therapy. I’m trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a structured therapy used to help people process difficult memories and experiences so they feel less intense and less disruptive in daily life. You don’t have to give a detailed play-by-play of what happened, which many men appreciate.
Skills you can use. We’ll also work on concrete tools for managing stress, anger, and anxiety, such as noticing early warning signs and calming your body down, so you have something to use between sessions.
A pace that fits you. You decide how much to share and when. We go at a speed that feels workable, not overwhelming.
Who this is for
This may be a good fit if you’re a man who:
-
Has never done therapy and isn’t sure where to start
-
Has tried talk therapy and felt like it wasn’t getting anywhere
-
Is a veteran, first responder, or someone whose job exposes you to hard situations
-
Is a student or professional dealing with pressure, including at Duke, UNC, or NC Central
-
Wants a direct, respectful conversation without judgment
