Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that starting therapy can bring many questions, and we are here to support you with transparency and care.
General Questions
What is your approach to counseling?
At Aspen Grove Counseling, we view mental health through a trauma informed and systems-based lens. Much like a grove of aspen trees sharing a single root system, we believe that individual healing is deeply tied to our relationships and environment. Our approach is trauma-informed, gentle, and rooted in evidence-based practices like Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR.
Is counseling right for me?
Counseling can benefit anyone seeking deeper self-awareness, healthier relationships, or recovery from past trauma. Whether you are navigating a difficult life transition or looking to process trauma, our clinicians provide a safe, non-judgmental space for your specialized journey toward growth.
How long does the counseling process take?
The duration of counseling is as unique as the individual. Some find clarity in a few months, while others find long-term support more beneficial for sustained change. We work collaboratively to set goals that respect your pace and the counseling process.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Please contact Meg and Chad directly to schedule a consultation and/or appointment. Meg can be reached at meg@aspengrovecounselingnc.com or via text at 919-590-0822. Chad can be contacted via email at chad@aspengrovecounselingnc.com, or via text at 919-526-0862.
If we do not answer during typical work hours we are most likely in session and will respond within 24-48 hours. Voicemails can take longer to follow up on due to being a small business, so email and text are preferred to coordinate a consultation.
Please note that Chad is not available for sessions until September or October of 2026.
Services & Specializations
I'm nervous, what can I expect in the first session?
It is completely normal to feel nervous coming into your first session. The start to therapy is all about feeling comfortable, so we can start slow and get to know each other. In the first session is an opportunity to share your story, identify areas for growth, and see if our therapeutic style feels comfortable for you. The process will be collaborative and whatever pace feels safest for you.
How do I know if EMDR is right for me?
EMDR is particularly effective for processing trauma, anxiety, and distressing life events. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your goals and determine if this specialized modality aligns with your counseling goals.
Do you all work with families or couples?
