Welcome to Aspen Grove Counseling
Meghan Barry, LCMHC-S
My journey in becoming a trauma therapist has been organic and came from a natural desire to live a happier, healthier life, and support my clients in doing the same. It is through my continued self exploration and training that I continue to witness the change that can come when working with the body and nervous system.
As a clinician, and human, I experienced how the use of mindfulness through treatment approaches such as sensorimotor psychotherapy and EMDR create a safe container for curiosity, exploration, and transforming trauma. I see my role as a therapist to support my clients in having greater contact with their essential self and to build resiliency by processing previous traumas somatically within the context of the therapeutic relationship.
My educational background includes a Master’s of Science in Counseling with a focus in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I received this degree in December of 2015 from Prescott College. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor in North Carolina (#S11442). I have eleven years of post graduate work in the counseling field working with adults. I have advanced training as a Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR (SAFE EMDR) Therapist. I am also certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I also have advanced training in SAFE EMDR for Chronic Pain, Emotional Freedom Technique and Spiritual Response Therapy. I am also a Certified Health Coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
Meg believes that, through safe relationships, every person has an innate capacity for trauma recovery.
Chad Girard, LCMHC-A (anticipated September 2026)
In August 2026 I will have completed my Masters of Science in Counseling program with a focus in Somatic Psychotherapy at Prescott College, and have my bachelors in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Coming into therapy as a second career after over a decade in tech has left me excited to assist others through their life transitions, be they personal or professional.
I have seven years of experience in supporting college aged men in undergraduate and postgraduate positions who were navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, introspection and substance use. I’ve been told that I have a warm, grounding presence and a curious mind that helps others find clarity as they process their life experiences.
Counseling is the process of establishing a trustworthy therapeutic relationship. This means that all topics are on the table with respect to the client’s beliefs, values, and identity. My approach combines acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing, and I believe we all have inherent abilities that therapy can help us understand and utilize in the pursuit of our goals. Our past experiences have contributed to where we find ourselves today, but, with guided introspection, can teach us lessons as we move towards the better outcomes of tomorrow. I’ve had personal experience with the transformative nature of counseling and look forward to passing on that profound impact to others.
My approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based. While being warm, caring, and non-judgemental I do believe that therapy should be goal oriented, driving towards the client’s objectives as they change over time. I am comfortable with being direct and challenging client’s thoughts and behaviors, while also holding that the therapeutic relationship is a collaborative process. I have a special interest in working with adults and teens as they navigate life transitions, questions around masculinity, gender roles, difficulties with vulnerability, relationships, and substance use or addiction.
When not immersed in the counseling environment, you’ll often find me walking my two dogs with my partner, or being smothered by one of our three cats. Any remaining time is spent playing board games with friends or reading.
I look forward to working with you and your path, however you want to define it!
David is committed to empowering his clients to develop enduring resilience and find balance amidst the complexities of modern life.
The Wisdom of the Aspen Grove
Redo this: Like an aspen grove, we believe that true resilience comes from deep connection. While each tree stands tall individually, they share a single, vast root system beneath the surface—supporting, nourishing, and sustaining one another through every season. Our philosophy is rooted in this interconnectedness, fostering a space where individual growth contributes to the collective strength of the community.
